How To Market a Web Series

Some good advice here to web series creators, albeit also common sense - AND does everyone have to reference "The Guild" in every successful web series article? We all like the show and know of its success, but it's a one-of-a-kind for sure and very unlikely to be repeated very often, if at all. Nonetheless, a good read...

From the article...

We have discussed a number of successful web series and what the creators of those series have done to increase awareness, and hopefully viewers. Sometimes, unfortunately, just being good isn’t sufficient. A quality show needs not only to connect, but it needs to have a life of its own outside of its episodes, something people talk about, feel connected to. Something in which viewers are active participants.

String Theory (Kindle Book)

If you have a Kindle (or the app) definitely check out the new crime novella "String Theory" from "Pink" writer Mike Maden. It's dark and twisted much like our show, and only $0.99 cents!

Another Great Kim Matula Scoop

More great press for Kim Matula (who plays College Nate in "Pink") about her growing popularity on the CBS daytime soap opera "The Bold & The Beautiful"...

Speaking of a promising newcomer. Starlet Kimberly Matula is giving a magnificent performance as ever suffering ingĂ©nue Hope Logan. The beautiful blonde actress won viewers over initially for her beauty, but she’s become a great performer.

We set our DVR and hopefully you will too. The inside scoop is that she makes out with Jim Belushi!

Exclusive or Super-Syndication Release?

Check out this good article talking web series release models from NewTeeVee...

Direct link:
http://gigaom.com/video/should-you-take-your-web-series-exclusive/

We definitely went for super-syndication with PINK, although for seasons two and three we gave Vuze a 24 hour exclusive - then the shows went out "everywhere".

Since 2007 PINK has been seen on YouTube, TheWB.com, Hulu, Yahoo, MSNBC, Vuze, Revver, MySpace, Koldcast, iTunes, Metacafe, Veoh, Blip, Break, and others we're probably forgetting.

If you're putting the content out for "free", then we feel it should be available pretty much anywhere folks can watch online video. However, if you're going for a "Freemium" or even a Pay-per-view (or VOD) then exclusivity is obviously the way to go. Or of course if you land a show sponsor, then likely one site or one portal would be used (unless it was product placement and then they might want the show to be available everywhere).

For the record, most of our views have come from YouTube, Hulu and Metacafe

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone had a great holiday and is ready for some great web television this year. We are still working hard to bring a new season of PINK to the world, but no word as of yet - so please be patient. :)

In the meantime, our sister show CONTINUUM just had its teaser trailer nominated for an Indie Intertube Award. This show will premiere later this year...

Thanks!
